AIRR member-regions intensify their partnership with the Republic of Korea

The key AIRR projects and prospects for the international cooperation with the Republic of Korea will be discussed within the 12th meeting of the Russian-Korean Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Seoul. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation will present the largest in the territory of Russia interregional project – Siberian Biotechnological Initiative (SBI).

In June, 2016 within the IV International Forum “Tekhnoprom-2016” (in Novosibirsk) the agreement on regional cooperation in the Siberian Federal District within the interregional program Siberian Biotechnological Initiative (SBI) was signed. SBI was created in compliance with the purposes designated by the Government of the Russian Federation aimed at the development of biotechnologies as one of the main directions for high-tech. SBI Council included the representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Fund of Strategic Development Center, JSC RVK and the representatives of seven regions of Siberian Federal District (the Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo, Omsk, Irkutsk regions, the Altai and Krasnoyarsk regions) interested in the expansion of biotechnologies for pharmaceutics, biomedicine and other branches.

The purpose of the SBI interregional program is the restoration and modernization of Russian bio-inspired branch based on the potential of Siberian scientific and technological, production and educational complexes in biotechnologies for agriculture, pharmaceutics, food industry, forestry, biomedicine and environmental science.

Coordination in development of the corresponding infrastructure is based on the identification of the centers of competences and advantages of each region, which have developed on the basis of their previous production, scientific, educational and innovative practices, priorities of regional economics.

Relying on the created infrastructure, the Siberian regions within the SBI program can reach large-scale international projects in many directions, creating new growth points of Russian economy.
