AIRR Business Visit to the Science and Technology Cluster in Shenzhen (China)

Representatives of the member regions of the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia, led by AIRR Director Alexander Smekalin, will visit the innovation infrastructure facilities of the Greater Bay Area from June 23 to 29, 2024, on an official visit to develop cooperation and exchange experiences in implementing high-tech projects with Chinese partners.

The AIRR delegation includes top-level managers of regional authorities and development institutions. The intensive business program of the visit, prepared with the support of ALONSY Business & Cultural Management Co., provides for familiarization with the leading scientific institutions of the region, territories of accelerated economic and innovative development, the largest production facilities in the field of microelectronics, robotics, mechanical engineering and unmanned technologies, official meetings with Chinese industry associations and high-tech enterprises, as well as participation in master classes on building effective communications and doing business with partners from China. The central event of the business mission will be a round table on the development of innovations and support measures in China with experts in the field of startups and investments.


The official start of the visit took place at the MSU-PPI site in Shenzhen, where the Russian delegation held a meeting with the university's leadership. The MSU-PPI in Shenzhen is a unique joint scientific and educational project established by the decision of the leaders of the two countries.


"Russia and China's relationship is undergoing another cycle of transformation. Within the framework of establishing partnerships between AIRR and the Chinese side, we see the joint MSU-PPI University as a promising point of communication growth and a platform to support cooperation between universities, research institutes, regional authorities and high-tech enterprises in Russia and China," said Alexander Smekalin.


"The joint university is ready to become not only a platform for educational and scientific cooperation between Russia and China but also to serve as a platform for economic interaction between our countries. We hope that holding the AIRR business mission at MSU-PPI will serve as a starting point in this process and give impetus to a more active economic rapprochement between leading Russian regions and Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, and the Greater Bay Area as a whole," noted Sergey Nikolaevich Ivanchenko, the First Vice-Rector of MSU-PPI in Shenzhen.


In continuation of the visit, the AIRR delegation held negotiations with the management of the leading operator of technology parks in China - the Guangdong branch of TUS Holdings Corporation with the participation of the Shenzhen Angel FOF and TusStar.During the meeting, AIRR representatives talked about the innovative and investment potential of the regions and discussed promising projects for developing cooperation with Chinese partners.


The Association of Innovative Regions of Russia regularly organizes foreign business missions to exchange experiences in innovation management and establish contacts with friendly countries.

Shenzhen is an international center for electronics and one of the leading global innovation hubs according to the Global Innovation Index 2023. It is rightfully referred to as China's Silicon Valley. Shenzhen is home to the headquarters of internet giant Tencent, which owns the WeChat app. The city also hosts the headquarters of companies such as Huawei, ZTE, and drone manufacturer DJI.

The Greater Bay Area (GBA) is an accelerated economic and innovative development zone in southern China, encompassing Hong Kong, Macau, and nine cities in Guangdong Province.

The MSU-PPI University in Shenzhen was established by Lomonosov Moscow State University, Beijing Polytechnic Institute (University), and the Municipal People's Government of Shenzhen.
